TOP500 Supercomputer Sites

Since 1993, the TOP500 project has listed the 500 most powerful computer systems twice yearly, providing a reliable way of tracking and detecting trends in high-performance computing.

In 2002, an Aspen Systems cluster installed at NOAA's Forecast Systems Laboratory was named TOP500's 8th fastest supercomputer in the world. At the time, this was the world's 2nd fastest Intel-based supercomputer ever. A year later, this system was ranked #17 in the November 2003 TOP500 list. This cluster consists of 768 nodes with dual 2.2 GHz Intel XeonTM processors and operates at 3.3 Teraflops (3.3 trillion calculations per second).

In addition, an Aspen Systems cluster operating at the University of Oklahoma ranked at #197 in the 2002 TOP500 list and #253 in the 2003 list.
