Aspen Beowulf Cluster Management Software (ABC) Requirements

Aspen Systems Beowulf Cluster management software (ABC) runs on SuSE, Fedora Core, & Red Hat Linux-based clusters. The operating system version must be SuSE Linux 9.0 (or higher), Fedora Core 1 (or higher), or Red Hat version 9.0 (or higher). ABC handles 32-bit 80x86 Intel and AMD systems, as well as 64-bit AMD OpteronTM processor-based systems. It is able to run in 64-bit on Intel Nocona (Xeon EM64T) systems.

Installation & Use:
  • System "root" access is required to install ABC on a cluster. A fully-functional and provisioned trial version of ABC comes pre-installed on all Aspen Systems-shipped Beowulf clusters.
  • To use the system, access to a web browser on a system able to reach the cluster over a network connection is required. Java applet support in the browser is required to use Remote Terminal.
The ABC control node must have:
  • 512 MB or more of memory (ABC application requires about 100 MB)
  • A 1.0 GHz or higher processor
  • Disk space:
    • 80 MB of space for the application
    • 100 MB of space for the application's database (30 MB initial; 70 MB for expansion)
Compute nodes must have:
  • 512 MB or more of memory
  • A 1.0 GHz or higher processor
  • Disk space:
    • 1 MB of disk space for transient data files
Network Requirements:
  • ABC control and compute nodes must have at least 1 NIC.
  • All compute nodes and the ABC control node must be in the same subnet.
Software installed with the ABC system includes:
  • On the ABC control node: java; net-snmp; libsmi; booted kernel source tree
  • On the compute / client nodes: net-snmp

If you have any questions about whether ABC can operate your existing Beowulf cluster, if you would like more information, or if you are interested in setting up a live demonstration of ABC, please contact Aspen Systems to discuss your specific needs.
